Mission

The mission of the NBAFA is to make local art visible, valued, enjoyed and easily accessed by the people of Nieu Bethesda and the public as a whole, in order to honour the work of South African artists such as Helen Martins, Athol Fugard and others and, equally important, to provide business opportunities for all the people of Nieu Bethesda.

Strategic objectives

In pursuit of our vision, the Fugard Festival will:

Objective 1:   Contribute to the economic wealth of Nieu Bethesda by:

  1. development or support of art initiatives which will put Nieu Bethesda on the ‘cultural map’ both regionally and nationally.
  2. marketing the arts to promote Nieu Bethesda as an attractive place to visit and in which to live and work.

Objective 2:   Broaden participation and address social inclusion by:

  1. presenting a culturally diverse arts program.
  2. supporting arts projects within Nieu Bethesda by giving exposure to local artists
  3. facilitating access to art
  4. raising funds through the festival to provide the community of Nieu Bethesda with basic needs

Objective 3:  Improve co-operation and co-ordination between different sectors by:

  1. working in partnership with key players across Nieu Bethesda to improve programming, to maximise impact and to minimise duplication.
  2. continuing to develop strategic partnership agreements with key art organisations.

Objective 4:  Seek efficient and cost effective methods of delivering events to the public by:

  1. securing external funding for flagship projects.
  2. developing relationships with key funders, sponsors and businesses to identify and maximise opportunities.
  3. building the capacity of the local art sector.
